Myss started her career as a journalist in 1974 and subsequently obtained her master's degree in theology. In the early 1980s, Myss co-founded Stillpoint Publishing Company, which focuses on books about holistic health and the development of human consciousness.

Despite her business association in alternative techniques for healing, Myss was actually disinterested in personally learning about New Age beliefs and the mind-body connection. When she could no longer ignore her own accurate and psychic health assessments, she decided to accept clients for medical intuitive readings.

Without a medical background, Myss felt confined in releasing a full analysis of the insightful impressions she received. So in 1984 she joined forces with Dr. C. Norman Shealy, neurosurgeon trained through Harvard, founder of the American Holistic Medical Association, and physician passionate about the science of medical intuition.

Myss matured her skills with the assistance of her colleague, and she continued her readings for several years, helping health professionals and clients understand the energetic imbalances related to physical manifestation of a disease. In 1988, Myss and Dr. Shealy published The Creation of Health (Stillpoint), which describes their research on the underlying psychological issues linked to illness.
