Research Into the Theory That People are Born Over and Over Again

May 30, 2009 Janis Masyk-Jackson

Some researchers believe that although our bodies die, our souls live on and are born again.

Reincarnation is the belief that when people die, their souls continue to exist and incarnate into new lives. Numerous books have been written on the topic both from the scientific viewpoint and from people who have had personal experiences regarding reincarnation. The following are some of the more popular books regarding the subject matter.

Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation by Ian Stevenson

Stevenson takes a scientific approach as he investigates the claims of young children who have spontaneous past life recall. He carefully interviews the children and their families to make sure their claims are credible and to ensure that they had never had any contact with the family that the child claims was theirs in a past life. Once establishing this, he works to validate the claims of the children.

A very interesting aspect of Stevenson's research is the correlation he found with birthmarks on a child corresponding with serious wounds, (often fatal,) on the body of the person the child claimed to be in a past life. Although Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation does not claim proof for reincarnation and even offers alternative explanations, Stevenson concludes that reincarnation is the best scientific hypothesis for what these children are experiencing.

Children's Past Lives by Carol Bowman

Children's Past Lives tells the story of Carol Bowman and how she became involved in reincarnation research due to past life memories of her children. This led her to seek out other families with children who have spontaneous past life recall. This book recounts some of the cases she has studied and offers guidance to parents who have children who claim to have lived before.

Many Lives Many Masters by Brian L. Weiss

As a psychiatrist, Weiss had been trained to always take a scientific approach to his work. After 18 months of trying traditional therapy on a patient named Catherine in an effort to get to the reason of her phobias, Weiss decided to try hypnosis to see if he could find any childhood trauma to explain the cause of her phobias. Instead, Catherine began recalling past lives. This book follows Weiss's hypnosis sessions and his subsequent findings.

Across Time and Death by Jenny Cockell

Jenny Cockell was haunted with memories of a past life as a woman named Mary Sutton. Sutton died twenty years before Cockell was born. Cockell set out on a journey to try to find the children she had in this past life. This book chronicles her journey to try to reunite with children she supposedly once mothered.

Journey of Souls by Michael Newton

Dr. Newton, who holds a doctorate in Counseling Psychology, goes beyond reincarnation research to find out what happens to souls between lifetimes.

His research supposedly answers questions as to what it feels like when a person dies and how souls belong to different soul groups who are reincarnated together. He claims to be able to place people in a state of superconsciousness whereas they are able to recall what happens to souls between lifetimes.

Even though reincarnation has not yet been proven to be a scientific fact, the above books offer some compelling evidence that reincarnation might truly exist.
