Whether you believe in fairies and want to meet some, or simply want to develop your magic, create encounters by learning how to work with fairies.

Witches and wise women have long had an association with fairies, from the ancient Celts to the modern Wiccan. Care must be taken when dealing with the Otherworld, but fairies have much to teach humans about nature and the Spirit realms, and can provide valuable insights into healing and using herbs. A balanced exchange is required, so always remember to repay their kindness.

There are numerous ways you can encourage the Fey to visit. Convince them of your sincerity; show enthusiasm for healing the planet and fairies will be glad to work with you, blessing you with their wisdom, laughter, joy and fairy magic.

Open up to Fairy Communication

Always approach the Fey with the greatest respect. Fairies are generally wary of humans, and many are unhappy with them for polluting and neglecting the planet.

Sit quietly in nature, imagine a pure white light surrounding you, and ask your guardian angels to protect you. This will keep any malevolent fairies at bay. Breathe deeply, becoming aware of the sensory pleasures around you; the sound of running water, the scent of wildflowers, the touch of bark against your back. Close your eyes, and respectfully ask the fairies to come to you. Ask for their assistance in helping you work more closely with them. Ask what they would like you to do for them.

Let thoughts, words and images come to you. Do not force them. When finished, thank the fairies and slowly come back to reality. Write down what you saw, heard or felt. Shed your protection, and ground yourself with a drink or by standing barefoot on earth or grass.

Encouraging Fairies in the Home

You can make your home more inviting to fairies in a number of ways. Firstly, ensure your house is clean and clutter-free. Use natural products rather than harsh chemicals, and limit the number of electrical items. Raise the frequency of your home’s energy with crystals, incense and natural objects.

Make an altar to the fairies. This can be a large table or a small nook on a shelf. Fill it with meaningful objects, such as fairy statues, leaves, crystals and candles. Use your intuition to guide you, and keep the altars fresh by changing items with the seasons and festivals of the year.

Encouraging Fairies in the Garden

Fairies are far more likely to venture into gardens that harbour wildflowers, birds and trees than gardens with symmetrical rows and manicured lawns. Grow wildflowers and plants associated with fairies, such as foxgloves and snapdragons. Leave a small patch to grow wild, with nettles and rotting wood, to provide homes for wildlife. Feed the birds, and tend your plants lovingly. If you need to prune or cut down, respectfully explain your reasons and ask for the plant’s blessing.

Even if your garden is tiny, or non-existent, you can encourage fairies with a small patch of wildflowers, or a beautiful window box.

Honouring Fairies

Make fairy offerings; milk, cream, honey and mead are favourites. Meditate with them, or light a candle on your fairy altar and thank them for their blessings. Acknowledge them when you see signs of their magic. Share your talents with them through music, dance and art. Look after your environment by composting and recycling.

Making these ideas a regular part of your life will attract fairies. As you continue working with the Fey, they will reveal more ways in which you can enjoy fairy experiences!

Thank you for your comment! It is not always easy to physically 'see' faeries, but with practice in developing your psychic ability, you might be lucky. Otherwise, look for signs of the faeries in your home or garden. Have a look at my other articles and explore the links on this page as well to learn more. Blessings!

We have a huge backyard, but I can sense a strong aura of life, I even encountered a faerie, sitting on a shurb with wings of a butterfly. My uncle wants to tear drown trees, that overtake the backyard. And truly I'm so scared, how do I ask them permission?
What do I do to not anger them, I don't simply want to just do anything without asking first. please help!

That's wonderful about your encounters! When it comes to cutting down trees, explain to the faeries and to the spirit of the tree what is going to happen and why. That way the spirit is prepared. I will be writing more about tree spirits soon. Plant more flowers and other plants to give new homes to the faeries. If you have any more questions please visit my page http://www.squidoo.com/workingwithfaeries where I can interact with you a bit more. Thank you for visiting!

Hi Louise, my name is Jessie, I'm 12 years old. You see i have been intrested in faeries eversince i was a kid, and i believed in their existance very much. But i havn't seen any until now. And i'm wondering, do faeries only appear outdoors in forest or gardens? Cos my backyard is pretty empty, with nothing else but flowerpots. It doesn't even look green enough. This disapoints me, am i not able to invite them indoors? Do faeries only communicate with people in outdoors? what about my bedroom, is it possible?

Louise Heyden :
Hi Jessie,
Faeries prefer to be in natural surroundings, as that is where they are most comfortable, however this is not to say that they will not visit those who call upon them. It is indeed possible to invite them indoors, you can try making a little faerie shrine or leaving out offerings, but just sitting quietly and inviting them in can be just as effective. Mentally ask for signs of their presence. With your backyard, plant some seeds or flowers in the pots. Tend them with joy and tell the faeries that they are your gift to them - a giving heart is sure to draw faeries near! Blessings.
